ache felt during urination
Early-stage genital herpes infection is directly related to urinary tract problems and symptoms. Herpes genitalis can cause inflammation within and around the urethra, the conduit that carries urine from the bladder to the penis for elimination. In the later stages of the herpes infection, however, symptoms such as urinary urgency, excruciating urination, urinary urge incontinence, and urinary frequency disturbance emerge. Reduced bladder sensation ultimately leads to urinary retention and increased residual urine, which are among the urinary issues. A person experiences extreme difficulty and discomfort when urinating. Some individuals also experience a painful discharge from the penis or vagina during urination. The swollen urethra caused by genital herpes can also block the flow of urine from the bladder to the penis for several days, necessitating the insertion of a catheter to evacuate the urinary bladder.
