Rosacea: Types, Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

High-Niacin Foods

Langerhans cell are immune cells that exist throughout the body. Niacin-rich foods such as peanuts, tuna, chicken, crustaceans and poultry can cause these cells to release compounds that increase inflammation, redness and pain. Vitamin B3, also known as niacin, is an essential nutrient for our nervous system and helps with metabolism. It should not be completely eliminated. If niacin is a trigger, then it’s worth avoiding these foods. Most Americans consume niacin.

Rosacea is not caused or cured by any specific food. Triggers can vary from one person to another. Therefore, a few inflammation-fighting foods might be helpful for you to keep symptoms and flare-ups in check. It is also important to be aware of your triggers to avoid unpleasant side effects. Consult your dermatologist if you have any questions about the best management method for you. Some of the most common triggers include:

  • Sour cream
  • Vanilla and chocolate
  • Yogurt
  • Liver
  • Vinegar
  • Spinach
  • Soy sauce
  • Certain cheeses
  • Yeast Extract
  • Lima beans
