Painful scalp and fever
The most obvious symptoms of ringworm are those that affect the scalp. The scalp becomes irritated and has patches. Infected hairs are brittle and painful to scratch. Ringworm can also cause swelling of the lymph nodes, low-grade fever and swollen lymph glands. In severe cases, permanent hair loss can occur.
