Night splints
The design of night splints is usually designed to keep the ankles in neutral position so that a person can sleep soundly. The plantar fascia is shortened when people sleep in this position. A night dorsiflexion brace allows you to passively stretch your calves as well as the plantar fascia overnight. Night splints allow for healing while the plantar facia is stretched out. This will reduce tension when you take your first few steps each morning.
Night splints may also be constructed from plaster casting, fiberglass or a commercially-made plastic brace. According to several studies, night splints improve the condition of almost 80% patients with plantar faciitis. A second study shows that nearly one third of patients with plantar faciitis consider night splints to be the best treatment.
