The build-up of fluid around the lungs
In the case of mesothelioma, the growing tumor cells begin to attack the pleura in the lungs, causing fluid to accumulate in the pleural cavity of the lungs. The accumulation of fluid around the lungs is known medically as pleural effusion, and it is a very critical condition for a cancer patient.
