Loss of appetite
Due to malignant mesothelioma, the patient loses interest in consuming, and the palatability of food declines, resulting in a loss of appetite. Appetite loss may be caused by the malignancy itself, or it may be the result of other underlying symptoms of mesothelioma. Other symptoms that may contribute to a mesothelioma patient’s loss of appetite include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, general weakness, fatigue, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, changes in smell or flavor, or feelings of depression. Appetite loss negatively impacts the nutritional status of a patient with mesothelioma and results in frequent weight loss.
