Simian virus 40 (SV40)
There may be a connection between the development of mesothelioma and simian virus 40, according to some investigations. Exposure to polio vaccines containing SV40 as contamination between the 1950s and 1960s is implicated as the cause of mesothelioma, according to the available evidence. Although the simian virus is not solely responsible for the development of mesothelioma cancer, there may be other contributing factors. However, the simian virus 40 renders people more susceptible to exposure to carcinogens, such as asbestos.
