There are nearly four varieties of mesothelioma within this division, which is based on where the cancer cells develop within the human body. The lungs are the most prevalent location for the development of mesothelioma cancer, but it can also develop in the testicles, abdomen, and heart. It is essential to recognize that various types of mesothelioma manifest different symptoms in patients. The treatment for various forms of mesothelioma depends on the cell type and the extent of the cancer’s spread. Each type of mesothelioma has a distinct prognosis. The following describes the four varieties of mesothelioma based on the location of the tumor cells:
Lung mesothelioma (pleura).
Pleural mesothelioma is one of the most prevalent forms of mesothelioma in the general population. Approximately 70% to 75% of mesothelioma instances are lung-based. In addition, more research has been conducted on the mesothelioma tumor than any other tumor. The majority of patients with pleural mesothelioma are candidates for chemotherapy and radiation therapy, which are treatment options for pleural mesothelioma. Some patients are also eligible for immunotherapy, which extends their life expectancy from months to years. Pleural mesothelioma occurs in the pleural lining of the thorax. The most prevalent signs and symptoms of pleural mesothelioma are sudden weight loss, fatigue, fever, shortness of breath, and chest discomfort. This form of mesothelioma typically has a prognosis of three or more years with treatment. Similarly, if the symptoms are at a critical stage, there is only a 12-month life expectancy.
