Overview, Symptoms, Causes, Types, Diet, Treatment, and Management of Low Blood Glucose (Hypoglycemia)

Being nervous or anxious

Regardless of the cause, fluctuations in blood glucose levels activate the body’s stress mechanism, resulting in anxiety and agitation. As there is a limited supply of glucose or energy for brain cells to function properly, a decrease in blood glucose levels impairs a person’s ability to concentrate and maintain activity. According to the studies, persons with hypoglycemia are more likely than the general population to develop anxiety and other stress disorders. Nearly forty percent of hypoglycemic patients experience anxiety and nervousness, which is most prevalent in older individuals. Anxiety is aggravated by the episodes of hypoglycemia that induce it. The reason for the increased likelihood of anxiety in hypoglycemic patients is that hypoglycemia stimulates metabolic and chemical changes in the body, which in turn impact the portion of the brain responsible for processing anxiety or stress.
