Chest wall oscillation functions similarly to postural drainage, but uses a hand-held, non-electrical device to loosen muscles through vibration.
A second type of high-frequency thoracic oscillation involves an inflatable vest connected to the air pulse generator. The machine mechanically vibrates the thorax at high frequencies to loosen mucus.
