Insufficiency of oxygen
Individuals with cystic fibrosis have difficulty breathing and experience shortness of breath. This is due to the accumulation of mucus in the passages and airways. When the lungs are loaded with thick mucus, it obstructs airflow by clogging the organ. Inhaling causes a rattling sensation in the thorax. A patient’s lungs may produce a thin secretion, which increases the risk of various respiratory infections.
