Overview, Symptoms, Causes, Treatment, Complications, Prevention, and Management of Cystic Fibrosis

Acute exacerbations

Exacerbation is the deterioration of chronic or acute obstructive pulmonary disease. Over time, the patient with cystic fibrosis experiences a deterioration of their respiratory symptoms. Gradually, airway obstruction worsens, making it difficult to breathe. Coughing accompanied by shortness of breath and increased mucus is indicative of acute exacerbation, which requires antibiotic treatment.
