Chloride sweat test
This test measures the quantity of chlorine in the sweat of an individual. As one of the symptoms of cystic fibrosis is an increase in the amount of salt in the body and on the epidermis, people with this condition perspire more. During the test, pilocarpine is applied to the patient’s skin, and then a small quantity of electrical stimulation is applied to stimulate the sweat glands. After perspiration is produced, it is collected in a plastic filament or filter paper. There is no age restriction for this examination. Anyone may take the exam. It is painless and does not require the use of a needle.
