Cystitis
Cystitis is the inflammatory condition of the urinary bladder. Inflammation is a term used to characterise pain, irritation, or swelling in a particular body part. In the preponderance of cases, urinary tract infection is the cause of cystitis. The urethra is the source of bacterial infection in this condition. Infection-causing bacteria reach the bladder through the urethra during sexual activity or after wiping after using the restroom.
This could also be caused by an imbalance in the bladder’s natural flora. The new flora is harmful and can induce bladder inflammation. Cystitis is not always caused by an infection. For example, certain hygiene products and medications can also cause bladder inflammation.
The severity of a bladder infection and the underlying cause determine the treatment. The vast majority of cases of bladder infection are acute or occur abruptly and can be treated with simple home remedies. In other instances, such as interstitial cystitis, the condition can become chronic and require long-term, individualised treatment.
