Use of Catheter
The insertion of a urinary catheter or its protracted presence in the urethra may cause a urinary tract infection (UTI) in individuals who use catheters to void. Obviously, whatever is inserted into the urethra must be sanitary. In addition, the body is not accustomed to the prolonged presence of a foreign body in the urethra. Individuals hospitalised with urinary catheters are more susceptible to urethral, bladder, and kidney infections.
