Disease
Various body conditions and diseases can affect the proliferation of bacteria, fungi, and other pathogens, and can therefore be a root cause of urinary tract infections. Some affected individuals are unable to thoroughly empty their bladder due primarily to nerve damage and spinal cord injuries in the region of the bladder. This may result in a bacterial proliferation in the residual urine and a bladder infection.
A urinary tract infection can be caused by an enlarged prostate, kidney stones, or any other condition that impedes urine flow. Diabetes and elevated blood sugar levels are also problematic because they provide a breeding ground for pathogens and compromise the body’s immunity and natural defences.
