Overview, Symptoms, Causes, Risk Factors, Complications, Diagnosis, Home Remedies, Treatment, and Prevention of Urinary Tract Infection

Common Causes of UTI

While these signs and symptoms may sound ominous, understanding the causes and risk factors for UTI can reduce your likelihood of developing one. Examples of common causes include:

You consume a great deal of sugar.

The consumption of sugar is the primary cause of numerous metabolic diseases and infections. Infection-causing bacteria, including those that cause UTI, subsist voraciously on glucose (sugar). When you have a sweet tooth, you run the risk of providing a secure haven for infection-causing bacteria by consuming foods high in sugar.

According to WebMD and the Mayo Clinic, if you consume an excessive amount of sugar or sugar-based products and experience an acute rise in blood sugar levels, you may end up excreting the majority of this sugar in your urine. This promotes bacterial proliferation and causes urinary tract infections. Additionally, foods and beverages such as chocolate, coffee, and alcohol can irritate the delicate membrane of the urinary tract and exacerbate an existing UTI.
