The people next to him were also watching the TV and talking amongst themselves. Eric pushed his hood a little higher and quickly walked off. He begged not to get recognized, because people might not hesitate to call the police.

When he got home, Eric noticed that his phone was blowing up. Clearly, his friends and family had also seen the wanted message on the news and wanted to know what the hell he had done.
He was afraid to tell his friends the truth. They probably imagined something much worse.
