Mark thought he would be wrong
As he entered the garden, his initial expression was mild curiosity and perhaps even skepticism. As Mark pointed the officer towards the object, its metallic sheen was visible. The officer’s demeanor dramatically changed. As he absorbed the enormity and nature of the anomaly, his casual interest became sharply focused.
He hoped that by keeping this part of his story a secret, the authorities would be able to give him a logical and unbiased assessment. A part of him held on to the hope of the police offering a mundane and rational explanation for the artifact buried in the ground, giving him the peace of mind that he desperately desired.
