Epithelial Growths

After LASIK, epithelial cell relocation occurs between the stromal flap and corneal bed. In most cases, epithelial growth occurs within the first three months after surgery. Patients may experience a reduction in vision as a result of topographic changes caused by the invading cell.
A diagnosis is usually made during the silt lamp checkup. This exposes pearly-white accumulation with a rounded outline. The ingrowth of epithelial is larger than 2mm, and a surgical intervention may be required. The procedure involves removing epithelial tissue, lifting the flap and applying a contact lens bandage.
