Limitations
On the basis of vision measurements, there are some general guidelines which may help explain who would be a good candidate for LASIK. Astigmatism is measured in diopters. If you have astigmatism that is constant and if your corneal health permits, then you may be eligible for LASIK. Your LASIK qualification can be affected by your nearsightedness or farsightedness. If you are nearsighted, you cannot exceed -12D. If you’re farsighted, you can only reach +6D.
It is not your eye measurements that determine whether or not you are a good candidate for LASIK. Other factors include:
- Moisture content in your eye
- You can correct your vision by aiming at certain goals
- The thickness of the cornea and the overall health of your eyes are important factors to consider.
- You can breastfeed or be pregnant
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Health status (conditions such as diabetes or autoimmune diseases may not be suitable).
- Eyesight stability that has not changed in the past year
It doesn’t really matter what you do to treat astigmatism or other refractive conditions. You should always consult your doctor. If you do not like wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses, LASIK is a good option. (7)
