What happens during LASIK surgery?
During LASIK, the eye is placed under a laser with a sterile speculum to hold it open. To make the procedure less stressful, most patients choose to take an oral sedative. Next, eye drops that numb the eye are placed in it. The corneal flap is created, which allows the area to be surgically removed. The doctor will ask the patient to look at the laser’s target light, then apply a laser pulse to the corneal periphery. Saline solution helps to remove debris and change the position of a flap on a cornea. The flap is softened and then the edges are dried. Most of the time, treatment takes less than 30 seconds.
