Introduction to Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).

Muscular Weakness

As its name suggests, spinal muscular atrophy is a disorder that causes continuous muscle wasting and progressive weakness. The muscle mass of SMA patients continues to diminish. The muscle weakness causes difficulty in movement and poor balance. In SMA, the voluntary muscles are most affected by muscular atrophy. Children with SMA struggle with muscle development and experience muscle atrophy.
