Limitations In Mobility
The spinal cord’s curvatures prevent normal muscle movement and cause extreme distress in SMA patients. The vertebral curvature of SMA patients reduces their mobility, and the limited range of motion they achieve through their movements makes SMA-affected children feel extremely frail. Children are more likely to develop extensive spinal curvature as a result of the restriction of their full range of motion caused by weak joints. Patients with spinal muscular atrophy also experience a loss of muscle pliability, resulting in diminished mobility. Due to all of the discomfort caused by spinal curvature, the patient has trouble performing voluntary movements.
