Headaches
Headache is the term for discomfort in the upper neck or head, and it is one of the most common symptoms of influenza virus infection. Depending on the severity and intensity of the virus’s exposure, influenza infection can cause mild or severe discomfort. When a person has an influenza virus infection, the cytokines, which are the body’s infection-fighting molecules, begin to cause pain in the tissues of the cranium and upper neck. The immune system produces cytokine molecules in response to exposure to influenza virus strains. Cytokine molecules are composed of small molecules. In response to the influenza virus infection, cytokines initiate an inflammatory response, which ultimately results in migraines.
