Acute appendicitis
Appendicitis typically begins with a stomachache (in the middle of the abdomen) that may come and go. Within hours, the pain and distress in the lower right quadrant, where the appendix is typically located, intensify and become constant. Coughing, applying pressure to the area, or walking may exacerbate the discomfort. The right lower abdominal region experiences a sudden onset of discomfort. Typically, sudden abdominal discomfort begins around the navel and shifts to the lower right side of the abdomen. Coughing, walking or engaging in other jerky movements, loss of appetite, regurgitation, and nausea may exacerbate pain.
