Gallstone formation

Gallstones may produce severe, sudden abdominal pain that typically lasts between 1 and 5 hours, but may occasionally only last a few minutes. The discomfort may be felt in the central portion of the abdomen (stomach) just below the right ribs. It could then spread to the shoulder blade or another side. Gallstones may cause more severe complications if they block bile flow for an extended period of time or if they transfer bile into other organs, such as the small intestine or pancreas.
