Long shot
Emma realised that she still held the key. It was a longshot, but they had no other option. They would have been stuck in this room forever if the key didn’t work.
This thought terrified them more than any other.

She pulled the key out of her pocket, stood in front of the door and thought about the impact this moment would have on the rest their lives. She took a deep breathe and, with tears in her eyelids, prayed for the key to fit the lock.
It did!
