Herpes: Symptoms and Causes. Treatment and prevention

Diet Changes

Limiting certain ingredients and eating the right foods can boost your immunity and help your body fight the herpesvirus. A change in diet may help prevent outbreaks, according to anecdotal reports. More research is needed, as clinical evidence only supports a few of these claims.

  • Antioxidant-rich veggies

Antioxidants in vegetables can boost your immune system, and reduce inflammation. Spinach, cauliflower tomatoes and kale contain a high amount of free radicals, which bind antioxidants. These foods are also rich in lysine instead of arginine – the amino acid ratio that is crucial for reducing herpes.

  • Protein

A healthy amount of protein will help the immune system respond to pathogens, including herpes virus. Consume a diet high in protein, low in saturated fat, by eating a lot of almonds, oats, and eggs.

  • Omega-3 fatty acids

Omega-3 chain fatty acid supplements may be helpful in managing chronic inflammation. These fatty acids are found in salmon, flaxseeds, chia seed, and mackerel.

  • Vitamin C

Vitamin C may also speed up the healing process for herpes. This vitamin C could also help to prolong the interval between outbreaks. Vitamin C is found in colorful fruits and vegetables such as strawberries, oranges and peppers. Mango and papaya fruits are also rich in vitamins.

  • Zinc

You can reduce the frequency of herpes outbreaks by taking zinc therapy. Consuming chickpeas and pork as well as wheat germ and lamb can help increase the amount of zinc in your diet.
