Recurring symptoms
The symptoms that recur are the same as those of the initial outbreak, but they must be milder and only last a short time. According to research, almost 33% of people with oral herpes experience recurring symptoms. Around 50% of people with genital or genital herpes also have these symptoms. According to the American Sexual Health Association, symptoms of oral herpes must last 8-10 days for each recurrence.
The symptoms of genital herpes recurring last almost 8-10 days, and the sores will be more than at the beginning. A recurrence of genital herpes can last from 2 to 5 full days. HSV doesn’t always cause symptoms. The severity of any symptoms that you don’t observe will depend on whether or not you have a primary or recurrent infection. Some people with HSV have only one episode, while others may experience episodes every few months or even longer. Repeated episodes can become less frequent as your body forms antibodies against the virus. The virus must also be causing less severe symptoms to increase faster.
- Repeated episodes of blistering may be less painful.
- Blisters which occur during a repeated episode may heal more complexly over a period of days than weeks
You may notice early signs of infection in the affected area if you have had a number of episodes. These signs, which usually appear a few days or even hours before blisters form, include:
- Tingling
- Itching
- Burning

Take antiviral medications as soon as you notice symptoms. This may help prevent or reduce an episode. No matter which virus or where you get it, the prodromal symptoms and blisters are likely to be similar. Both types of HSV have the same DNA. Only the location of symptoms is different.
- You may experience a problem when eating spicy or acidic foods if HSV is affecting the mouth.
- You may experience burning or pain when urinating if HSV has affected the genitals.
There are also differences in the location of oral blisters, depending on whether or not they are primary or recurrent. In the beginning, you may get blisters on your mouth and lips, but in later episodes they will more often occur around the lip border. HSV is a common infection that many people do not realize they have because the symptoms and signs are so mild. When symptoms are recent, they may appear two to twelve days after the exposure to virus. You may experience symptoms of genital Herpes such as:
- Itching and Pain: If the infection is not cleared, you may experience pain or tenderness in your genital region.
- Ulcers are those that occur when blisters rupture, ooze out or bleed. It can be painful to urinate if you have an ulcer.
- Tiny white or red bumps may appear a few weeks to a few months after an infection.
- As ulcers heal, your skin will crust and form scabs.
You may experience flu-like signs and symptoms such as a headache, fever and swollen nodes of the lymphatic system in your groin. You may develop sores where the infection has entered your body. You can spread infection to another part of your body by scratching your eyes, rubbing and touching the sore. Both men and women can have sores:
- Mouth
- Thighs and Buttocks
- Urethra is the tube that allows urine to be sprayed from the bladder outward.
- Anus
