Herpes Symptoms
Herpes symptoms include itching, burning or tingling. Blisters or sores may appear around the mouth or genitals. Symptoms usually appear 2 to 20 day after the virus is exposed.
- Oral Herpes
Blisters, also known as cold sores and fever sores in the mouth or lips, can be caused by oral herpes. Occasionally, blisters can form on the tongue, face or other parts of the body. The blisters usually last between 2-3 weeks.
- Genital Herpes
They can develop anywhere on your body, but they are most common on the penis or vagina. Herpes can also cause pain when urinating or changes in vaginal discharge. When an individual first develops sores, the lesions may last between 2 and 6 weeks. Symptoms may recur frequently soon after the initial outbreak. After a while, symptoms may become less severe and outbreaks less frequent.
Primary symptoms
Herpes can cause blisters or sores. Herpes can cause:
- A fever
- Itching and pain
- Feeling unwell or fatigued is a common feeling.
- Swollen lymph nodes
In most cases, lesions can be cured permanently without leaving any scars. Initial infection symptoms, or the initial episode, can occur from a few days to several weeks after virus exposure. Initial episodes can include flu-like symptoms such as:
- Lack of appetite
- Fever
- Headache and pain in the body
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Fatigue or unusual tiredness
- Pain shooting at the site of an infection
Before painful small blisters appear, you may experience tingling or burning. You may see a single or small blister. The blisters will eventually crust over or burst before they begin to heal. Blisters that develop during an initial infection may take up to 6 weeks to heal. If these blisters do not heal, they can still spread viruses. Sometimes, sores itch. Genital sores can cause pain when urinating.
