Surgical procedures

Hemorrhoids are not always curable by themselves. A small percentage of patients require surgery to cure them. For larger hemorrhoids the doctor will perform either of the following surgical procedures.
Hemorrhoidectomy (or hemorrhoidectomy) or hemorrhoid-removal surgery
He or she removes excess tissue that causes bleeding. Hemorrhoidectomy is performed under local anaesthesia, sedation, or spinal anaesthesia. The most effective way to treat hemorrhoids that are severe or recurrent is through surgery. After the surgery there may be complications, including difficulty emptying the urethra, which can lead to urinary infections. This complication is usually caused by the spinal anaesthesia.
