Gout.
Gout can cause swelling or pain to the joints in the feet. The big toe is the most common joint affected, but any joint can be affected. The deposition of uric acids in the joints is the cause of gout. Uric acid crystallizes into needle-like urate in the joints, causing pain and inflammation.
