Additional Checkups
To aid in diagnosing erectile dysfunction in a patient, the physician may order additional tests. These exams consist of:
Diagnostic ultrasound
Ultrasound aids in scrutinizing the penile blood vessels to detect any problems with penile blood flow.
Injection examination
To induce an erection, the doctor injects a medication into the penis of the patient. The injection test permits the physician to evaluate the erection’s tenacity.
Test for nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT)
The NPT test assesses the quality of nocturnal erections by having the patient wear a portable, battery-operated device on his thigh.
Blood exams
Blood tests are useful for diagnosing conditions such as heart disease, reduced testosterone levels, thyroid problems, and diabetes.
