Cigarette Use
Smoking can impair blood flow in a number of ways, leading to a variety of health problems, such as stroke, heart attack, and other cardiac diseases. Men can also develop erectile dysfunction as a result of long-term, heavy smoking. Only when blood vessels around the penis enlarge and aggregate, is an erection possible. Smoking can prevent the blood vessels encircling the penis from functioning properly and relaxing, preventing an erection from occurring. While more research is being conducted, fewer studies indicate a strong correlation between a reduced sex drive and nicotine use in men. According to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, smoking is a red flag for males because it can have a negative impact on their fertility. In comparison to men who do not smoke, male smokers are twice as likely to experience infertility. Smoking causes infertility by first causing DNA damage in sperm cells, which leads to difficulties with fertilization. In addition, the compounds found in tobacco products, such as nicotine, carbon monoxide, and cyanide, accelerate sperm loss in smokers.
