IPT – Interpersonal Psychotherapy
IPT is a form of treatment for eating disorders like compulsive eating disorder and bulimia. IPT examines your eating disorder from a social and interpersonal perspective.
There are four primary problem areas in IPT. Included are:
Interpersonal deficits are frequently characterized by feelings of isolation or a dearth of meaningful, satisfying relationships. These relationships need not be romantic; they can also include family and acquaintances.
Typically, differences in expectations between yourself and others in your life, such as parents, acquaintances, family members, or employers, are at the root of role conflicts.
These are significant changes in one’s life, such as leaving home for the first time, beginning a new profession, or beginning a new relationship.
Grief refers to emotions of loss following the death of a friend or relative or the dissolution of a relationship.
Your physician and you will discuss how each of these issues contributes to your eating disorder. Eventually, they will assist you in enhancing your communication and interpersonal abilities in order to alleviate your symptoms.
