Pica differs from the typical behavior of infants and young children, who typically place multiple objects in their mouths. Pica patients will continue to consume non-food items. There is more to eating than sampling or observing behavior.
Pica can also cause a variety of other symptoms, including:
stomach ache
fractured or chipped teeth
Lead poisoning characterized by a bloody stool
