Bulimia Nervosa Treatments
Antidepressants are the most commonly prescribed medication for the treatment of bulimia nervosa. When combined with psychotherapy, these medications have been shown to reduce bulimia symptoms.
The only antidepressant authorized by the FDA for the treatment of bulimia is fluoxetine (Prozac). It belongs to the SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) class of antidepressants and has been demonstrated to benefit patients with multiple eating disorders – even if they are not despondent.
