Myths and Misconceptions
In some regions of the globe, epileptic seizures are still considered demonic possessions. It is also commonly considered a mental disorder. However, epilepsy is a disease of the brain that can be treated with anti-epileptic medications. Contrary to conventional belief, epileptic patients are not intellectually inferior. There may be social and personal effects of epilepsy that necessitate community-level support and a rejection of the condition’s stigma.
