Perinatal complications
In addition to the genetic mutations discussed previously, the natal period is a crucial phase for the fetus’s healthy development. Any deviation from the norm at this juncture can have lasting consequences for the foetus. Infections suffered by the mother are prevalent disturbances during this period. Inadequate oxygen supply to the foetus, caused by a variety of factors, can also hinder the development of neural tissue. Inadequate nutrition during pregnancy poses a risk of inadequate blood supply and ion imbalance.
