Tongue biting

Due to uncontrolled jerky movements that may involve the mandible, epileptic patients are at a high risk for tongue biting. It is the defining characteristic of generalised tonic-clonic seizures. The location of the puncture on the tongue also contributes to the diagnosis of epilepsy type. However,’swallowing of the tongue’ is a superstition associated with fits. It is virtually impossible to swallow the tongue in its entirety.
