Altered sense of smell
False sensory perception during the ictal and post-ictal phases is another prominent characteristic of epilepsy. The majority of doctors associate it with the aura phase of seizures. Many sensory perceptions are altered. This may cause visual and auditory hallucinations. Despite being less frequent, olfactory hallucinations do occur. The patients may detect a foul, burning, chemical, or pleasant odour. The manifestation is brief, and the patient recovers quickly after the spell.
