Anaphylaxis Risk factors
Certain factors may increase an individual’s susceptibility to anaphylaxis. Included among these are:
Anaphylaxis may worsen with subsequent attacks due to a strengthening of the immune response each time the individual is exposed to the allergen.
A preexisting sensitivity to irritants such as hay fever, rhinitis, and asthma.
A history of allergy and sensitivity in the family.
Age: various causes of anaphylaxis can be associated with distinct populations. In adolescents, food allergies are a common cause. Anaphylaxis caused by insect venom typically affects adults in their early twenties. The elderly are susceptible to medication-induced anaphylaxis.
