Muscular Strain
Muscle tension is another symptom of anxiety, specifically associated with the fight-or-flight response triggered during an anxiety attack. The hormones secreted during this response prepare the body for combat or flight. This clarifies the function of these hormones in causing increased muscle tension. The hypertensive muscles can respond to rapid bursts of signals from the brain, even if these signals are not completely processed by other senses, such as vision, smell, or taste. Muscle tension is experienced as a dull pain or muscle tightness. Another less frequent symptom of anxiety is muscle trembling. Extremity trembling, abrupt movements, and rapid blinking are all manifestations of the same mechanism.
