Family ancestry
The family history is extremely important when diagnosing anxiety. It serves dual purposes in this regard.
The inheritance of anxiety through generations cannot be contested. The mutated genes may be transmitted genetically. It may also manifest differently in some individuals, while sparing others in the same family. Clearly, anxiety results from the interaction of heredity and the environment.
Since childhood, the family also shapes the environment and the psyche. Even in later years, the influence of family on personal development does not diminish. The manner in which a person’s loved ones respond to his or her emotional and physical crisis influences the individual’s attitude toward the crisis. Neglecting children’s anxiety or reprimanding adolescents for their emotional turmoil is counterproductive and can lead to anxiety disorders.
