It is surprising that anxiety can also be accompanied by fatigue, given that it is previously described as involving intensive mental and physical processes. The cumulative effect of all hyperactive physical symptoms is fatigue. Mental and emotional exhaustion can be caused by an anxious state of mind. Patients may fret excessively about a task, leaving them exhausted and unable to perform. Increased muscle tone during an anxiety attack is followed by muscle relaxation.
Fatigue can sometimes be linked to sleep deprivation in anxiety, but it can also occur even in patients who have had a decent night’s sleep.
