Xanthine oxidase inhibitors

Inhibitors of xanthine oxidase reduce the quantity of uric acid produced by the body. When a person begins taking xanthine oxidase inhibitors, however, an acute gout attack can be triggered. Taking these medications during an acute gout attack can also exacerbate the condition. In conjunction with the initiation of a xanthine oxidase inhibitor, a brief regimen of colchicine is often administered to gout patients. Nausea and rash are two adverse effects of xanthine oxidase inhibitors. There are two principal xanthine oxidase inhibitors used to treat gout:

Allopurino Febuxostat and Probenecid
Probenecid is a medication that enhances the kidneys’ ability to eliminate uric acid from the circulation. Among the adverse effects are stomach upset, kidney stones, and a rash.
