Corticosteroids
Corticosteroids are significantly more effective in reducing inflammation. Corticosteroids are available as oral medications or intravenous injections directly into the affected joint. When corticosteroids are used for extended periods of time, they can cause severe adverse effects, including the following:
Enhanced likelihood of infection
Optic cataracts
elevated blood pressure
The disease osteoporosis
Diabetes mellitus
Tissue death in joints, particularly the shoulder and hip joints
Corticosteroids are typically prescribed to patients who cannot take colchicine or NSAIDs. Corticosteroids available without a prescription for gout include the following:
