Anemia
Some chemotherapy drugs cause a low red blood cell count or anemia as an adverse effect because they target healthy red blood cells in addition to cancer cells. In addition, certain chemotherapy medications hinder the bone marrow’s ability to produce new red blood cells, resulting in anemia.
