Adverse consequences
As healthy tissues also contain dividing cells like cancer cells, there is a clear possibility that chemotherapeutic agents will cause adverse effects by harming healthy cells. The fact that chemotherapy medications kill healthy cells that are dividing helps to explain why the treatment causes side effects. However, normal cells are able to repair and replace healthy cells damaged by chemotherapy, and the damage to healthy cells is not permanent.
